Hollywood and LA Clippers game

Me, my boss and the other guy thats from Wichita all went to the LA Clippers NBA game at the Staples Center and we made a day out of it and went to Hollywood during the day. It was incredible to be in the Staples Center and to see the Kodak Theater because when I was there last, it was just a big hole in the ground. And yes, the hollywood star is Elvis Presley, thought I had to get it for you Dad.

Irrigation Problems?

We came into work Thursday morning getting ready for the Cal St. games on Fri-Sat-Sun. Ooops, the field was flooded. No irrigation problems, just a mistake by the head groundskeeper anonymous Y. Guess he just left it on too long because supposedly he had it start late Wednesday night and it was still going when we went on the field Thursday morning, not a great site to say the least. So, we or me had to my butt off to get the field and warning track to dry up. As you can see, serious flooding occured. Thank God the sun was out all day, behind the left field bullpen, there was about a foot of water, though its low in that area so it all accumulated there. We couldve said we had huge rain from the spotted shower, just passing over Arrowhead Credit Union Ballpark only. But by Friday, it was drying up to about 95% so it was alright, just a lot of man hours and elbow grease.
A week off from baseball games/practice for Cal St.

We finally got a week off from not having anything on the field, which was heaven for us. We got to do what we wanted to do on the field and make it look good, which consisted of me mowing everyday, us edging the field, working on the skin, making adjustments to the mound, etc... Check out my handywork. The last picture is me going to work in the morning and seeing the snow on the mountains from the week before.
Cal St. San Bernardino Coyotes Baseball

College baseball in CA is underway and that means Cal St. games for us to work and get the field ready for. Here are some game pictures and batting practice. The field gets beat up a lot, especially on the sidelines. As you can see in the first picture, the snow capped mountains/hills in the background. I had to take the 3rd picture because of the clouds, its almost like a painting or like how Ameristar is on their ceilings.
Blame it on the Rain

Well, my new boss's first week was welcomed with rain, of course. As you can tell, we got about 2 inches of rain in like 1 1/2 days. The field was soaked pretty good. But we got it to playing condition and looking good, yet again. There was even a spot in shallow left, right behind the back edge of third where there was standing water, but then again the field is low in that area too so go figure. As you can tell, on days that it rains, the clouds are really low because of the mountains/hills.

Field of Dreams in San Bernardino?

Well since my boss left for the LA Dodgers, I'd say the field has gotten 10x better with the hard work and dedication by the kid that worked there before and yours truly. We've been creative with patterns on the field but as always the best has yet to come. I mow the outfield and sidelines. Currently, this week was our sunburst pattern(top picture), it took a while to get it going, we're thinking of keeping this pattern on until the new guy comes in from NY so he thinks that we're good hard workers to keep the field in good playing condition.

UCLA vs. Stanford BB 1/31/2009 / UCLA Campus
Me and a couple of my roommates decided to take a trip to watch the UCLA vs. Stanford basketball game this past Saturday. UCLA won pretty big with an overload of offense attack. I got to see the famous John Wooden Court at Edwin Pauley Pavillion. It was cool, I'd say it was basically like a mix of the Expocenter in Topeka and Freedom Hall in Louisville. At halftime, they honored the 1964 & 1965 National Championship teams. The main speaker was none other than John Wooden himself, it was an amazement to see him. One of my roommates' friend goes there so afterwards, he gave us a tour of campus and walked along Wilshire, near the Fox Studios nearby, where they sometimes have movie premeir's there. The campus is really nice with incredible views, I don't understand how students can actually go to class with the USC-UCLA campuses being so nice. But yeah, I'm beginning to be a familiar face in LA with being there back-to-back weekends, not too shabby.

USC Trojans/Los Angeles
I had the day off yesterday(Saturday), so I decided to make a trip to Los Angeles to see how things were going. I ended up at the University of Southern California campus for some reason, not sure how that happened. I walked around campus and saw the LA Coliseum once again, the baseball stadium(Dedeaux Field), the soccer field/track, along with other attractions. I went inside Heritage Hall, which is their sports building, I was up close to all of the Heisman Trophies, the different national championships of various sports, oh and of course the BCS National Championship Trophy. I was in heaven, I even saw Marcus Allen's Hesiman Trophy, which was cool. Lets just say, I was in awe of it all. I drove around downtown LA but didnt have good picture opportunities but I went by the Staples Center and the Convention Center.
